Would your community benefit from using Community Gearbox?

Many communities already have gear, tools, supplies, materials, and other resources spread across their networks. But these resources are often hard to see, hard to coordinate, and hard to care for together.

When that happens, useful things go underused, people buy what they could have borrowed, participation can be limited, and the work of sharing falls back on memory, text threads, spreadsheets, or informal labor.

Community Gearbox is a tool that helps people coordinate shared resources in a way that strengthens community, reduces waste, and makes generosity easier to sustain over time.

Our 2026 summer and fall partnership offering is designed to help three Seattle-based communities stand up stronger systems for sharing what they already have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this ONLY for nonprofits?

No. We welcome interest from nonprofits, mutual aid groups, collectives, clubs, student groups, and other trusted community networks, as long as they are based in Seattle or primarily serve Seattle residents.

This opportunity is currently focused on Seattle-based organizations and communities, or groups primarily serving Seattle residents, in order to meet current grant requirements.

Not necessarily. This opportunity is intended for Seattle-based groups or communities primarily serving Seattle residents.

Resources could include gear, tools, supplies, event materials, teaching materials, outdoor equipment, kitchen items, books, creative materials, emergency preparedness supplies, and more.

There is no participation fee for selected partners.

That is completely fine. Many communities already coordinate sharing through spreadsheets, chats, email, or word of mouth.

You are still welcome to apply or reach out. Part of this process is exploring fit together.

Built for people who want to share more

A small tool for collective abundance – helping useful things move between friends, neighbors, and groups with more clarity
and less tension.

Use Case

Outdoor Groups

Whether it’s a kayak, cooler, tent, or camp stove, outdoor groups often rely on shared gear to make plans happen. Community Gearbox helps friends coordinate who has what, what’s available, and what needs to make its way back before the next trip.

Use Case

Parents & Care Networks

From strollers and carriers to toys, books, clothes, and the next-size-up thing someone suddenly needs, parenting often runs on shared gear. Community Gearbox helps care networks keep useful kid items circulating with more clarity and less logistical stress.

Use Case

Cohorts & Communities

From guitars and project supplies to shared materials for gatherings, cohorts and communities often build collective life with resources that move between people. Community Gearbox helps make those shared items easier to coordinate and less likely to disappear into the blur.

Use Case

Youth & Student Clubs

From pinnies and sports gear to event supplies, costumes, art materials, or snacks for meetings, student groups often depend on shared stuff. Community Gearbox helps clubs keep track of what’s communal, who has it, and what needs to come back before the next event.

Use Case

Artists & Creatives

From cutting mats and sewing tools to cameras, lights, instruments, props, and materials, creative work often depends on shared resources. Community Gearbox helps artists and collaborators coordinate those tools more easily, so less energy goes into tracking things down.

Use Case

Farm & Land Projects

From tractors and seed trays to tools, hoses, work gloves, and shared infrastructure supplies, land-based projects depend on equipment moving between people and places. Community Gearbox helps teams coordinate those resources so shared work stays organized and momentum keeps building.
